How Keefe saved a bank

Using his detective skills. Everyone knows that the criminals in the picture are from Home Alone!

One day, Keefe was relaxing at home. He was playing video games when he got a call. The person on the other line was the boss of the City bank on Sandor. The boss’s name was Duncan. He called and asked Keefe if he could help him find out who robbed the bank. Then, when he found that person, to report to him, and he would tell the police.

Keefe came over. He saw that the window was broken, and the main vault door was broken. There was only a one-dollar bill on the ground that the criminal had left behind.

“I saw only their arm go into the door that would lead to the basement. I don’t know what happened next. I’ve never been in the basement because it’s not where I go,” said Duncan.

“I’ll find him, don’t worry,” Keefe said. “What else do you know Duncan?” Duncan shook his head, “Nothing else.”

“Then I’ll head into the basement and check it out!” Keefe said. As he got to the door, Duncan said, “Keefe, we put sand on the floor. Follow the footprints and it will lead you to where the criminal went!”

“Thanks so much!” Keefe said. Duncan nodded. Keefe looked around. He couldn’t see very well because the light was very dim. He still managed to find the footprints. He followed the trail and it led to the window. The criminal exited and went…

Two separate ways. Keefe followed the path that went to the left. He went the way where there were more cars. That way, there could be many cars to pick. But… all of the cars were moved. How would Keefe know where the footprints went if they had been driven on, and how would Keefe know where they went if they went by car?

Wait, if criminals wanted to escape from a robbery then, they would drive fast, and recklessly! That’s how I could find them, Keefe thought. There would be tire tracks from driving so fast and trying to get around other cars! Wait, but I don’t have a license.

He got into a car and put his license in the glove compartment. He left the parking lot and looked to see which way the trail went. It went to the left. He turned on the blinker and went left. “Yess! This is so simple!” Keefe said. “Good thing I learned how to drive yesterday!”

All of a sudden and he heard the police say to him, “Pull over!” He did what they said and they came up to him. “You are under arrest for robbing the bank!”

“I didn’t rob the bank. I was asked by Duncan to look for the criminals who actually robbed it. You see, I’m a detective,” Keefe said.

“Oh, ok, but are you aware that you are driving an unlicensed vehicle?” The officer asked. “You need an officer with you if you want to drive it.”

“Oh, I didn’t know that. I found this car from the rental by the bank. I learned how to drive yesterday, and got my license, but not how to tell if it’s licensed or not. How do I know?”

The officer said, “Classified, but it’s unlicensed. If you want to drive it, then you need to prove that you have a license by showing it to me.” Keefe took out his license from the glove compartment and showed it to the officer. “Ok, you can go,” the officer said.

“Thank you,” said Keefe. He continued to follow the tire tracks to a warehouse. It was small for a warehouse and didn’t look like one. Next to it, there was an office building that would also make a good criminal base. Keefe wasn’t sure which way to go. There must be a clue. They knew that officers would be after them, so they would still be hurrying. Maybe they dropped some of the money from the bank.

He looked around. It was a huge, empty space like the parking lot. He knew that it would be harder to spot the clue here than at the parking lot, though, because of the buildings. All of a sudden, he saw something out of the corner of his eye. It was something a trail of something shiny. He ran over to one of the shiny things. A nickel! He followed the trail to the office building. It was a small lobby. Not a place where bank robbers would hide.

He went into the elevator. He knew that if criminals took the stairs, they could have been caught. He pressed the button of the elevator, and it opened up. Wait, but how would he know which floor the criminals went to? He needed some clue…

He looked at the buttons. They looked the same to Keefe. He double-checked and triple-checked. Then, he saw a little bit of dirt on the button marked “12” This place had that many floors? It didn’t look that way, but that didn’t matter, he had to look for the criminals who had robbed the bank. He pressed the button that went to the 12th floor. Within seconds, he was on that floor.

He expected the criminals to be hiding somewhere, but as soon as he walked out of the elevator, he saw them right there. He called Duncan. He whispered into the phone, “I found the criminals. They are at the office building on Main Street. They are on the 12th floor.”

“Good job Keefe! I’ll call the police now!” Duncan half whispered and half cheered. In the next half an hour, the police had arrested the criminals and brought the money back to the bank. “Good job Keefe! The world is happy thanks to you!”

“No problem!” Keefe said. The investigation was successful!
