How many lasagnas can Garfield eat?

Here lives Garfield. He is a really fat cat who eats a lot of lasagnas. He eats so much of it that he has a round stomach now. To make things a lot worse, he has been invited to an eating challenge! What if he becomes a bouncy ball? His owner, John, and his girlfriend Liz are worried right now about this. They don’t want Garfield to do this, but the mayor wants it to happen, so it's got to happen!

Now John and Garfield are on their way to city hall. Let's head over there now and wait for the two of them there.

A few minutes later

Ok, here they come. They are parking right now, just outside city hall. Now they are walking into city hall. LLet'ssee where they will go now. Garfield and his owner John go into city hall and talk to the mayor. Of course, the mayor is ready to start, just like everyone else.

You may have thought that this challenge would be against other citizens of the town that Garfield and John live in. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The mayor had other plans. “This challenge is to see how much lasagna the fat cat Garfield can eat,” the mayor says. “If he can eat more than 200 lasagnas, then he will get an eat-a-lot-of-lasagna award. If he eats less than that, he will get…” the mayor thought for a while, “more lasagna,” he decided. If you know Garfield well enough, you will know if he will eat more than 200 or less than 200 lasagnas. If you don’t, then I won’t spoil it.

Garfield got his first 10 lasagnas. He ate them all in 4.7 seconds. This is a normal speed for Garfield to eat lasagnas at. If you have seen him in person, you will know that he can eat lasagna faster than this. The thing was that no one had ever seen anyone eat lasagna before at this speed. They were shocked to see that.

After Garfield ate those, he looked around for more to eat. He saw more coming. 10 more lasagnas came. He ate those in half the time as the first batch (2.35 seconds). Once again, everyone who was watching was very shocked.

The third batch came. This time, he ate them in 3.5 seconds. By this time, people were getting used to seeing Garfield eat this much lasagna this fast. Batches of 10 came like this 17 more times and Garfield ate them very fast. After eating the 200th lasagna, Garfield was stuffed. If you remember, the mayor was trying to see if he could eat more or less than exactly 200, which he eats now. At this point, he was stuffed, as everyone could see.

“Ohhh! Looks like Garfield is too full to eat another lasagna! Since he is this full, we need to find a way to force him to eat another one!” the mayor said. Everyone was talking to someone else about how they could make him eat another one.

“How about we just show him the lasagna and see if he will eat it?” someone from the audience suggests. I wonder if that is a good idea though? Vito, the pizza and lasagna maker, is bringing a lasagna to Garfield. He is walking up to Garfield… and now is he putting it in front of his face. Garfield is opening his mouth as if he wants it! It's working! Uh-oh! He didn’t bite the lasagna, he is biting Vito’s finger!

Someone else is trying! They are showing the lasagna to Garfield! He is reaching for it slowly. Oh, he just bit the person’s finger again. “Let's try one more time! If the next person fails, we will try something else,” the mayor says. John is coming with the lasagna. He shows it to Garfield, who, of course, is trying to bite John’s finger, jumps. Instead of Garfield biting John’s finger, John shoves the lasagna into Garfield’s mouth. Garfield, surprised by not having bitten someone’s finger, is biting the lasagna without realizing it. He swallows it! Now he has eaten 201 lasagnas. Now he can take a break.

The mayor, with an eat-a-lot-of-lasagna award, gives it to Garfield. He happily takes it home.
